Soil and Engineering Material offers services through our five departments,namely:

                         •  Technical Department

                         •  Drilling & Maintenance Department

                         •  Cement Soil Grouting Department

                         •  Laboratory Department

                         •  Surveying Department

This department is considered the kitchen facility of SEMATCO.
It carries out the following tasks:

          1. Conform test procedure in both drilling and laboratory               departments to International Standards, i.e., ASTM, BS,               DIN, ISO, ACI
         
          2. Train personnel to carry out newly introduced tests as per standards requirements
         
          3. Check all test reports before submittal to clients

          4. Produce all technical reports

              reinforcement, compaction.

          •  Design of foundation system both shallow and deep

          •  Evaluation of concrete structures

          •  Design of retaining walls, shoring systems and embankments

          •  Assessment of environmental impact for new projects

          •  Design and supervision of bituminous mix

Very often, the work of this department is done in association with the Sister Company Geotech Consultants , which is specialized in consultation in the field of work of SEMATCO . Geotech Consultants was established in 1989.

2. Drilling & Maintenance Department

          It is the responsibility of the department to:
           
           1. Carry out all the site work related to soil either onshore                or offshore

           2. Carry out all necessary maintenance work to all rigs

           3. Maintain enough tools on stock to carry out jobs                properly

This department has enough technical staff represented by mechanical engineer, experienced drillers, drivers, mechanics and workers, in addition to, three drilling rigs to fulfill the following scope of work:

           1. Geotechnical bore holes onshore and offshore

            2. Standard and Cone Penetration Testing (SPT & CPT) to evaluate soil strength

            3. Soil sampling both disturbed and undisturbed

            4. Water sampling

            5. Field permeability

            6. Water wells and dewatering systems

            7. Drilling holes both vertically and horizontally or inclined at prespecified angles for                 installation of anchors, probes for cathodicprotection, etc

3. Cement Soil Grouping Department

4. Laboratory Department

The main responsibility of this department is to obtain building material samples from site or soil samples from drilling department and carry out the appropriate physical and chemical tests as per international standards. The lab department is also responsible for carrying tests on-site as required. All test results are reported to the technical department for report production. The lab department consists of soil lab, concrete and steel lab and chemical lab. The labs are run by experienced staff and equipped with the latest testing equipment. These equipment are calibrated periodically by authorized parties. SEMATCO can act as a third party inspector for private and public projects.

Scope of Work:

          1. Determine soil physical and strength parameter, such as soil description, moisture               content of soil, specific gravity,soil gradation by sieve analysis, atterberg limits, soil               density, maximum and minimum density, soil permeability,direct shear test,triaxial               testing and consolidation test.

          2. Determine soil bearing capacity in-site by plate load test

          3. Determine soil field density by sand cone

          4. Determine soil and water chemical properties such as, sulfate content, chloride content and       pH value.

          5. Determine soil resistivity

          6. Determine aggregate physical and chemical properties, such as L.A. abrasion, sand
              equivalent

          7. Determine physical and chemical properties of cement

          8. Take fresh concrete cubes and crush them to evaluate concrete strength

          9. Determine strength of existing concrete buildings using non-destructive testing such as
              ultrasonic or Schmidt hammer or using destructive testing such as cores and crushing them

          10. Carry out loading tests for existing building and monitor deflection in different                 structural elements

          11. Carry out asphalt mixes sampling and testing

          12. Determine steel tensile strength

5. Surveying Department

This department specializes in a number of aspects of Land and Engineering Survey:

          1. Topographic Mapping, using Total Stations and data-loggers

          2. Engineering survey

          3. Hydrographic and Bathymetric Surveys

          4. Survey of Historic Buildings

          5. Geodetic Leveling
